A share/stock, also known as equity, is a security that represents the ownership of a fraction of the issuing corporation. Units of stock are called shares; which entitles the owner to a proportion of the corporation's assets and profits equal to how much stock they own. Stock trades have to conform to government regulations meant to protect investors from fraudulent practices. It is essentially an exchangeable piece of the value of a company which can fluctuate up or down, depending on several different market factors.
The value of a share depends on several key market principles. Put simply, a share’s value is what people are willing to pay for it if is on sale. Shares are not sold at any given time though – the transaction of shares strongly depends on the liquidity of the market. Investors buy shares because they predict the value of the share will go up, and for the streaming long-term dividend payments.

 

Often, stocks are bought and sold on stock exchanges, such as the DSE After a company goes public through an initial public offering (IPO), its stock becomes available for investors to buy and sell on an exchange. Bond investment in Tanzania

A bond is a fixed-income instrument that represents a loan made by an investor to a borrower (typically corporate or governmental). A bond could be thought of as an I.O.U. between the lender and borrower that includes the details of the loan and its payments, details include the maturity date when the principal of the loan is due to be paid to the bond owner and usually include the terms for variable or fixed interest payments made by the borrower.

In Tanzania government bond are known as Treasury Bond with maturities of 2, 5, 7,10,15,20 &25 years with fixed coupon of 7.6%,8.6%,9.48%,10.25%,11.15%,12.10%&12.56% respectively. Bonds are sold in the exchange after being issued, so clients can sell bonds before maturity through brokers. Also, corporate bonds issued by companies like NMB, TMRC, and Exim bank, mostly have short-term maturity of 3 years.
